Whitton Lions RFC put their recent grant win from NatWest RugbyForce to good use by carrying out a number of improvements to their ground and clubhouse. Instead of taking to the field and tackling the opposition, members of the club were handed paintbrushes, screwdrivers, forks and shovels to help with much needed improvements to Whitton’s local sports association, Whitton Park Sports Association.
Whitton Lions were lucky winners of a £250 grant from NatWest RugbyForce Weekend, a nationwide programme which took place on June 15 and 16 and helps rugby clubs to improve and renovate their facilities with the support of the community and volunteers.
Whitton Lions Chairman, Cllr Gareth Elliott, said: “With the help of NatWest RugbyForce Whitton Lions are delighted to be able to give something back to the community and the ground within which we play. The changes that we have achieved over the weekend will go a long way to helping the Lions to grow as a club in Whitton. As a club we have always been humbled by the support from our local community and look forward to seeing our support base grow for the 2013/14 season.”
