Whitton Lions RFC won big with NatWest RugbyForce and the RFU as they bagged £1,500 as part of a nationwide programme to encourage new members and provide funding to upgrade and enhance their clubhouse.
The Lions pounced on the challenge to get involved in some DIY and used the award to build a new toilet facility and lay a new carpet. The previous carpet, in particular, was in a state of disrepair from decades of club shenanigans and club members will be extremely happy to see the back of the old flooring. With the new season about to start in September the NatWest award gives the players a chance to use the fresh new look to aim to bring in new players and supporters, and perhaps trophies, back to the Whitton Park Clubhouse.
Chairman of the Whitton Lions and Whitton’s recently re-elected Councillor, Gareth Elliott, said: “The new carpet and the new toilet along with a new bar are fantastic additions to our clubhouse and will give the lads a spring in their steps as the new season approaches. I hope that with the new facilities it will aid our chances to bring some silverware back to Whitton Park, especially now that the bar has new trophy cabinet.”
